Children's Safety Program Begins

ATV/BC is excited to announce that the ATV/BC child safety program is set to begin. In 2008, ATV/BC applied for a grant from COHV to develop a program to teach children safety while riding an ATV. This program was to teach the children in the classroom in a one hour session.

In 2008 ATV/BC hired a teaching professional to develop the curriculum and related materials including a work book for the students.

In 2009 ATV/BC applied for two more grants working towards the same goal of teaching safety to the students. Train the Trainers program was developed with the goal of teaching ATV members how to instruct children using the developed curriculum.

“Road Health North” Grant, a program for Northern BC has been approved and the 1st Vice President Jeff Mohr is in charge, he is in the process of asking the clubs from Prince George North for members who want to be ATV/BC instructors for the Children’s Safety Program, at the present time there are six opening for the Train the Trainers Program for the North. “Train the Trainers” program a grant from COHV has been approved and will take place in Kamloops this spring. ATV/BC is asking for anyone who wishes to take this program to become a children’s safety instructor to contact Bev Felske Director in order to have a space reserved for them. For both Programs the persons participating will have their expenses paid, to travel, accommodation and meals via the grant.

“Road Health North“ – seminar to be held in Prince George in late April or early May.

“Train the Trainers“ – seminar to be held in Kamloops in late May or early June.

Qualifications:

  • A person who is interested in teaching the students ATV safety in a school classroom.
  • A person who has the time to schedule two classroom seminars per year, more if they wish for a minimum of two years.
  • A person who is used to public speaking and dealing with children.
  • A person who loves to ride an ATV and wants to share their passion with children.
  • A person who is a member of ATV/BC
