Save a track contest
In an effort to keep prime riding trails open ATVBC is encouraging all B.C. riders to map out their trails
ATVBC, in conjunction with Mussio Ventures is announcing the start of a new contest that will benefit all riders in B.C. Mussio Ventures, the Backroad Mapbook people and ATVBC have joined forces to see if we can save our riding areas from being taken away from us by the fact that we have never laid claim to our historical riding territories. As motorized recreational users we are famous for not mapping our riding opportunities and this is being used against us. If we fail to claim the trails and road systems we use, there is every chance that some other user will claim them for themselves and not allow us access. To deter this we need to make a concentrated effort to get our trails on paper. To this end it is the joint hope that every rider with access to a GPS will save the tracks of the riding areas they travel and get these tracks on paper. It is by putting these riding tracks into print in the Backroad Mapbooks that our claims to usage may have more clout. These same data tracks could be used to put forth applications for Land Use Permits that we need for sustainability.
The contest idea is simple, go for a ride and GPS your route.
The guys at Backroad Mapbooks are ready to receive tracks from all the popular brands of GPS units in whatever format they use. The information will be used to show trails we use as ATV trails in upcoming volumes of Mapbooks. A list of all contributors will be kept by BackRoads and a random draw done quarterly to determine winners of prizes. These winners will be announced and the tracks described on the ATVBC Website and in the Quadnews Newsletter.
There is info on the MapBooks website regarding ATV trails or you can view www.backroadmapbooks.com for a bit of contest information.
All entries to the contest are to be sent to atvcontest@backroadmapbooks.com. |
