New Board Members

At the AGM in Elkford this August the membership elected nine directors of which three were new:  Don Frew (West Kootenay), Wayne Kells (Salmon Arm), and Lisa Bowell (Nanaimo).

Due to health and personal commitments, two of the recently elected Directors of ATV/BC resigned their positions. We were very sorry to lose Wayne and Lisa.

But on a positive note, Robert Hergott volunteered to fill a position on the Board.  Robert is president of the Fort Saint John Club (the M.O.O.S.E.) and brings enthusiasm and experience.

Dennis Webb was also in a position to return to the Board and volunteered to do so. Dennis was a past Board member and recently became the Past President of the Vernon Club.

The ATV/BC Board looks forward to working with these dedicated new members.  A complete listing of all board members and assignments is on our website under "About Us".

Biographies of our new directors

Don Frew

Hi my name is Don Frew I was born in Trail, B.C. to Gordon and Marylin Frew In the year 1955. I have 2 brothers and 1 sister. Both my brothers work for Teck one is in the environment and my younger brother is the one and only Blacksmith at Teck. My sister works in Victoria for the Government.

I am married with 2 children, my wife's name is Linda and we have been happily married for over 30 years. My son Chris is 24 and works for Rite Way as a Millwright, my daughter Lindsey is 19 and works with the elderly as a server in an seniors home.

I grew up in Trail and reside just outside of Trail in Montrose. As a young lad we did lots of outdoor activities with our parents, hunting, fishing and camping. In my later years I trained horses for 7 years for Dressage just below the level for the Olympics. After that I took an apprenticeship as a carpenter. The school that I attended was in Kamloops which was called The Caribou College at that time. I finished my trade in 1979 as a carpenter. At present I am an operator with Teck in Trail. I have 32 years service with this company.

I have been involved  with the Trail wildlife association for many years as a member and non-member. I have been involved with ATVs for approximately 8 years. I was the rider on the back of a machine until I acquired mine on my 50th birthday. I really became serious when the club asked if anyone would like to be an Safety Instructor for quads. I told the club that I was interested and in October of 2008 I became an instructor. I have certified 20 people through the Canada Safety Council program so far.

In August 2009 my wife and I thought it would be nice to take in one of the AGM's so we ended up at Elkford. The local club was at it's finest through hospitality, organization at the AGM. At the AGM I was nominated by Dave for director, I let my name stand for the director position.

The rest is history now as I am a director for ATVBC and am enjoying it.  The only way that you will have the right to ride is by getting involved in something that you enjoy and want to do. The people who are involved with this club are down to earth people and are doing alot for the whole province and I am happy and proud to be a part of their organization.

Robert Hergott

My first quad experience was on my brothers 1985 (ish) Honda 185s on our farm in Rosedale BC. This thing was crazy to drive as the front axle had no suspension whatsoever.

After leaving the farm, quad riding for me was mostly for work until moving to Fort St John BC in 2002. In 2004 I started borrowing a few machines to go out and do trail maintenance with the local club, joining the Moose ATV Club in 2005.

I bought my first quad, a BRP 800cc 2up in 2006 so I could get my wife and kids out more often. I became President of the Moose Club in October 2007 and love to ride all over the Province with my quad and people I have met through ATV BC and the local Clubs.

I have had the pleasure of riding such areas as the Fraser Valley, Sicamous, Hedley, Princeton, Kamloops Northern BC (a lot) with planned trips to Elkford, Revelstoke and Vernon.

I have met so many fantastic people through ATV BC and look forward to each of the events we put on. Our local club has been quite busy this year, but with their fantastic support I am able to enter the Provincial Arena to help combat those that oppose our right to enjoy this great Province and the many areas it has to offer.
